Every Week I will try to report Something New that Happens. These examples will Help You Make the Right Decision so that you can improve your health and the condition of your wallet.
A) Last night I had a toothache that gained strength as I sat watching T.V., then laid down for bed. This is often the case since blood flow to the head will increase the pressure and thus load the swelling with more pressure resulting in higher levels of pain. Luckily I had prepared an “Emergency Dental Kit” as described in the book. I had clove oil and coconut oil mix ready to go which was easy to apply since it had formed a nice little cake to spread with a finder or Q-tip. The pain went away.
1) A patient that had not seen me for 10 years returned to me after calling up with an Emergency need for a cracked tooth. On the phone, he told me that his HMO dentist had told him that he needed $1200 worth of work which included a crown and a nightguard to repair and protect the tooth. So I was expecting the worst. When I Iooked in his mouth I had to ask him again exactly what tooth it was. Sure enough, it was a tiny crack on the smallest cusp of an upper molar. I told him that I could smooth it over and that a crown would only harm the tooth. He had told me that he cracked the tooth while chewing and so was surprised that the other dentist had told him to buy a night guard when he showed no wear on any tooth related to night grinding. So the whole treatment plan given by the other dentist was at best a scam and at worst a serious offense if it had been completed. I smoothed over the tooth with a fine diamond and a polishing wheel. He said that it felt like new and was totally content with the very simple and cheap treatment.
2) I overheard a wife talking to her husband about a huge $6000 dental bill that was unexpected. They were sitting next to me as we waited for a theatrical production to start. I asked her if the dentist provided a treatment plan with estimated fees, or if they had signed any form agreeing to the cost and type of procedure. They said no and that they were never told how much the cosmetic procedure to close tooth gaps with bonding would cost. They had just been at the orthodontist who removed brackets and wires from their teen’s mouth. The other office was just down the hall from where this orthodontist was located. The orthodontist obviously did not know how much the one-and-a-half-hour treatment would cost since they had no affiliation to the other office. So now these parents were out $6000 for a couple of small veneers. I told them to contact the Dallas Dental Society and file a complaint. I suggested that they had a good case and with arbitration would probably see a lot of that money returned.
3) I noticed that a friend had a swollen face and asked her what had happened. She indicated that she had just had extensive periodontal grafting of the gum tissue on the front root surfaces of her upper front teeth. She told me that used an advanced pin-hole technique and the procedure went well. She was warned about the swelling. I asked her if she was using a very soft toothbrush. She told me that they had sold her an ultra-sonic toothbrush and I explained to her the most out-of-the-box “soft” ultra-sonic brush heads were not that soft compared to a good super soft brush. I showed her how “tufts” of bristles placed tightly together turn the whole array into rather tough units. No one should be selling a patient with advanced recession or erosion an ultra-sonic toothbrush. Probably the front-office girl or the hygienist made a good commission by her the brush–all for the sake of a profit.
4) In the book Dr. Hofmann spends some time describing the dangers of AGE’s. These glycation end products affect proteins causing cellular dysfunction and inflammation. One area of common pathology is at the vascular level in the skin. This study on Medica 2011 by Adrian Covic gives great clinical details: Consequences of Advanced Glycation End Products Accumulation in Chronic Kidney Disease and Clinical Usefulness of Their Assessment Using a Non-invasive Technique – Skin Autofluorescence So it is known that sugar + heat on skin leads to aging spots. These spots are formed through a glycation process involving sugars and proteins. Glycation and sugar go together to cause harm to a lot of other organs including your memory and eyesight.
5) We are slowly being poisoned according to the top endocrinologist in American, Dr. Lutsig. My friend Ellen sent me this message: I bought some smoked salmon with herbs from TJ’s the other day and I so looked forward to a nice evening treat. After I had the first bite I felt so disgusted about the taste. It had a very sugary taste. Then I checked the ingredients (which of course I should have done before I purchased it), and saw it had corn syrup as the SECOND ingredients listed. Corn syrup added to FISH? Does that make sense?
