CAN XYLITOL DO WONDERS THAT NO MAN-MADE DRUG CAN DO? Why are there detractors out there? And what are the Answers?
Xylitol is a 100% naturally occurring sweetener, not an artificial chemical like Splenda (Succralose), Equal (Aspartame) or Sweet‘N Low (Saccharin). Xylitol is a sugar substitute found in various vegetables and fruits such as yellow plums, strawberries and raspberries as well as corn husks, birch, oats, and mushrooms. Here in America there has been some push back against xylitol and much of it may be due to corporate greed or to lack of knowledge. Any person that consumes it should start with only 1-2 grams after each meal or snack. This will protect the saliva from acids and help control bad bacteria. Some people may have consumed a lot of xylitol at one time in a desert or candy. Be aware that many companies and people mix the xylitol with erythritol which is much sweeter. They do this to heighten the sweet taste, but it will also increase the chance for bloating and/or extra loose stools. Erythritol is a 4 carbon sugar and is very quickly absorbed and so can be a big problem.
Food intolerance and sensitivity
While food intolerance and sensitivity may not be life-threatening like a food allergy, the symptoms can nevertheless be uncomfortable. In addition, food sensitivity and intolerance can be difficult to determine at times because sometimes foods may be consumed in small quantities without triggering a reaction as in the case of an older developing an intolerance to certain dairy products.
