Doctors are finally realizing how important the mouth is in relation to overall health. So many have focused on the gut when an unhealthy mouth can lead to death in many forms: heart disease, gram-negative pneumonia, oral cancers, pancreatic cancer and diabetes, and even chronic brain disorders. Periodontal disease releases both bad bacteria and toxins or enzymes that can destroy heart muscle, pancreatic cells, brain cells and trigger pre-term birth in the uterus through both amniotic fluid and the placenta.
Unfortunately, many dentists and doctors have focused on using antibiotics instead of maintaining a healthy flora. They have focused on killing bacteria instead of promoting good bacteria. This can be as dangerous as killing all the bacteria in the gut. A balance must be maintained between good and bad bacteria, for the good bacteria serves to protect the teeth and gums. Removing all the bacteria allows the bad opportunistic bacteria to come back quicker and in greater numbers with more acid. They will create an environment that will destroy teeth and generate swelling in the gingival tissues. This infection and the swelling of gum tissues will allow more bad bacteria to hide out and flourish. It is a vicious cycle that destroys good cells and bacteria that protect your gums and teeth.
It is not wise to use hydrogen peroxide, Triclosan or other antibiotics in toothpaste, and chlorohexidine or other super powerful mouth rinses. Also be careful with alcohol mouth rinses for they will also kill good bacteria. Another good idea is to protect both teeth and gums by using a super soft toothbrush with bristles that are spaced apart. for instance the super soft Korean toothbrushes have smaller spaced apart tufts that do not collect and hide bacteria like the American toothbrushes. The bristles can aerate and dry out easier.
Do NOT use salt or other abrasive polishes when brushing. You want to protect the enamel and not irritate the super thin tissue around the roots of each tooth. People who are obsessive compulsive do more to harm their mouth tissues than any other person— it is dangerous to brush too hard.
Remember you want to be gentle and the super soft bristle on the Korean brush has an extra thin tip that sweeps gently around the curves to clean out the gum collar around teeth. One of the best products to help your gums fight off bad bacteria is a molecule that your body produces, and which can be found in strawberries, raspberries, mushrooms, plums and cauliflower. This 5-carbon sugar is also stored in almost every cell in your body— it is made in the mitochondria and stored there. Thus, IT IS COMPLETELY BIO-COMPATIBLE & ACCEPTED BY MUCOUSAL CELLS OF THE MOUTH, THE ENTIRE GUT SYSTEM, THE THROAT AND ESOPHAGUS, AND THE NASOPHARENGIAL APPARATUS. THIS 5-CARBON SUGAR IS T0TALLY SYMMETRICAL AND CAN THEREFORE FOLD UP ITS ARMS AND HEAD TO CARRY CALCIUM WITHOUT A CHEMICAL BOND TO BOTH THE ENAMEL OF TEETH AND BONE.
I capitalized the above data because it is very important that you understand that you need a gentle natural substance that inactivates bad bacteria yet protects good bacteria. This natural molecule is XYLITOL which is totally NON-TOXIC, and even though it is a sugar the FDA allows it to be sold as a non-sugar with the label “sugar free.” So why would science and the FDA allow a molecular sugar to be labelled as sugar- free? This super-sugar does NOT act like a typical sugar because it is semi-absorbable in the blood stream and works to prevent diabetes and high blood sugar. It has a glycemic index of 7 compared to 70 which is the index for table sugar. It is a little less sweet than sugar and has a caloric index 40% less than table sugar. This “lack” of extra sweetness may be why American companies do not sell it as a sweetener. However, this lack of super sweetness is good. In every important aspect this form of sugar helps the body and protects cells from bad bacteria. We need to break our addiction o super sweetness and choose health over taste.
Xylitol has a symmetrical 5 carbon designed to inactivate the “motor” in bad bacteria that consumes 6 carbon sugars. Stevia which is also a 5 carbon sugar does not have this important trait and because stevia is non symmetrical it is not biocompatible. Stevia affects the endocrine system in an adverse way and causes low blood pressure. Unfortunately, Stevia has been promoted above Xylitol because of its sweetness and convenient production methods.
Xylitol was produced in Finland in the late 1930’s when the Nazis blockaded the nation. They extracted the sugar from Birch trees and gave it to their kids in the form of a small mint after every meal. Twenty years later they discovered that those now grown up kids had no tooth decay, few if any history of middle ear infections and nasopharyngeal infections. Xylitol was able to control opportunistic bacteria in the head and throat! In the 70’s our government ignored this data and realized that the price of sugar had to be controlled in order to stabilize the economy. Sugar is used in almost all our packaged and canned foods. So, in the 70’s the government under Nixon and Ag Secretary Butts bought the patent rights from Japan for extracting high fructose corn syrup from corn kernels and used this cheap sugar to control sugar prices. Soon they were able to stabilize the rising cost of food. And in the process they chose to reject the import of the more expensive and healthier Xylitol. This decesion cost the health of Americans and many others for generations to come. Now over 50% of the population is either pre-diabetic or diabetic. This was the biggest mistake in the history of healthcare and prevention in the history of mankind.
